PARALYMPICS GB HOMECOMING
ParalympicsGB Homecoming
ParalympicsGB Homecoming was a celebration of ParalympicsGB's achievements at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, held at Birmingham's Utilita Arena and broadcast on Channel 4. Hosted by The Last Leg presenters Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker, the show combined live music performances, VTs, athlete interviews and celebratory moments marking the team's return from Paris. Shiny Dot delivered the full visual package, including the logo, title sting, lower thirds and stage screen content.
For presenter moments throughout the show, Shiny Dot designed a bespoke house look for the stage screens. Drawing on the colours of the Paralympic podium, the design framed the celebrations throughout the evening. Layered forms and shifting tones brought depth and movement across the wide LED screen, while the medal motif supported the celebratory tone of the show.
The Paralympic Story
The sequence combined wheelchair choreography by Propel Dance with spoken word, music and stage screen content to tell the story of the Paralympic movement. Shiny Dot created a five-part visual narrative tracing its journey from pioneering beginnings to the achievements of British Paralympians today. The sequence opened with the origins of the movement, as an illustrated book unfolded across the screen and chalk-style sketches brought to life the founding of the Stoke Mandeville Games - the competition that would later evolve into the Paralympics.
The sequence then explored visibility, as bold editorial-style graphics and cultural imagery highlighted the growing representation of disabled people in media and public life. It continued with activism, where protest footage appeared across a wall of television screens, reflecting the fight for accessibility and equal rights. Recognition appeared through a fictional search engine, Paroogle, where live search queries revealed footage, photographs and Paralympic milestones. The story closed with a montage celebrating British Paralympians across different eras, culminating in a live tribute as five trailblazing Paralympians appeared on stage beneath their portraits.
Extraordinary Bodies and Lucy Illingworth
Circus company Extraordinary Bodies performed an aerial piece during the show. The stage screen framed the performance with a grid of neon light strips, carefully timed with the music to support the choreography. Within this graphic environment, the aerial choreography was defined against the grid of light.
Lucy Illingworth, winner of Channel 4's The Piano, gave the first live performance of her debut single ‘I'm Walking With You’ at the ParalympicsGB Homecoming. Behind her, stage visuals of a moonlit sky filled with butterflies, fireflies and shooting stars created a celestial backdrop for the performance, with the butterflies responding to the movement of a ballet dancer as Lucy performed alongside live musicians.
